The Initial Hurdle Theory
Whatever you do for the first time,
whether it's working, swimming, or playing musical instruments, without
acquiring the basic practical knowledge and skills, it is often difficult to
unconsciously engage in new activities with joy. Additionally, there are higher
and unfamiliar hurdles to overcome in the process of acquiring these skills.
While beginner's luck might be experienced occasionally, it's the exception
rather than the rule. After surmounting some of these hurdles, the possibility
of experiencing joy and fun increases, along with a boost in self-confidence,
which becomes a driving force to continue exploring new activities. For
retirees, it is suggested to have various hobbies to engage in for a fulfilling
daily life. However, it's important to be aware of the initial hurdle theory
when starting something new for the first time.
