The Healing Power of Time in Relationships

Image
When dark clouds gather in your relationships, your mind can become very disturbed. Under stress, it becomes extremely difficult to control your thoughts, concentrate on tasks, and maintain the rhythm of daily life. In such situations, it would be ideal to quickly find a way to relieve the tension and protect your heart. However, significant mental disturbances can make even this challenging. At times, you may have no choice but to surrender to the passage of time, waiting for it to solve the problem—not by changing the other person, but by changing yourself. Even though you might not want to rely on time passing, it can be the best remedy.

Living Without Regrets: Embracing Challenges Before Retirement

Image
Your second life begins after retirement, but in your first life, it's essential to actively challenge yourself by pursuing healthy, specific goals and hopes that arise from deep within your heart. Even if some endeavors end in failure, looking back after retirement, you won't harbor many regrets. On the contrary, if you didn't try, you would regret it, carrying that feeling with you even after retiring. While it's important to consider the relationship between risk and return when taking on challenges, and to take on challenges within an acceptable level of risk as you age, the key is to push your boundaries. Immediately after retiring, you'll feel content if you can say, "I did everything I could in my first life."

The Path to Progress: Embracing Setbacks and Moving Forward

Image
If we take three steps back today, we can take four steps forward tomorrow. By consistently taking one step forward, we will eventually reach our destination. In life, there may be even more meaning in overcoming every setback along the way than in simply reaching the destination.

Embracing Human Imperfection: The Emotional Challenges of Adulthood and Retirement

Image
People remain immature regardless of their age. Even in retirement, we can become so entangled in our emotions that rational and logical decision-making becomes difficult. These moments present opportunities for growth, yet despite understanding the logic, our emotions often overpower our reason, making action as challenging as it seems. However, this state of struggle and imperfection is also the essence of humanity. Therefore, it is better to avoid self-blame in such situations.

The Importance of Collaborative Questioning in Problem-Solving

Image
High-quality questions posed by the questioner in response to the parties' explanation of the problem are those that clarify the facts and lead to the essence, structure, and solution of the issue. In this sense, sincere collaboration and cooperation between the parties involved and the questioner is essential for understanding the core problem, selecting effective countermeasures from the available options, and implementing them. This cooperative approach is extremely important and ideal for effective problem-solving.

Avoiding Cognitive Traps: The Importance of Diverse Perspectives and Vigilance in Decision-Making

Image
Given the limited capacity of our brain's memory, it often relies on past experiences and knowledge to process information efficiently and reduce cognitive load. Consequently, we may sometimes interpret situations based on assumptions, leading to errors in judgment. To avoid this pitfall of assumptions and oversight of fact-checking, it is essential to remain vigilant about not succumbing to our own biases. Rather than making decisions based on limited information from a single perspective, we should actively seek information from diverse viewpoints. Cultivating a positive mindset and thinking from multiple angles is crucial. Developing the habit of double-checking and triple-checking our assumptions ensures more accurate and well-rounded decision-making.

Transforming Anxiety into Action

Image
To avoid being overwhelmed by media information that unnecessarily stirs up anxiety for profit, we must replace vague anxieties with clear, identifiable problems. By doing so, we can engage in deep reflection and seek solutions through dialogue with our inner selves, consulting experts when necessary. It is crucial to take the necessary actions based on these reflections. This approach can significantly reduce stress-related worries. While this may be easier said than done, developing the habit of addressing problems in this manner can lead to a more peaceful and focused life.

Sharing and Learning from Real-Life Experiences

Image
What you think about, worry over, and the courage you muster to solve a problem or achieve a goal—even when you fail—are all valuable experiences. When you hit rock bottom in disappointment and learn from it, and it takes a long time to recover, the journey you undergo can deeply resonate with someone else. There are people who would love to know about your process and feel a strong desire to have a similar experience. It doesn’t have to be the grand ideas of great people or their monumental success stories. In fact, the success stories of individuals who are closer to your level can be more relatable and helpful. With traditional paper books, matching the supply and demand of success stories is challenging. However, with social media, this matching becomes incredibly easy. In an era where anyone can be a storyteller, the demand for such stories is endless.

The Value of Time and Living in the Present

Image
If people's lives were infinitely long, would they still find value in living to the fullest and cherishing the present? Personally, I might find myself both physically and mentally corrupted by such endlessness. In contrast, the brevity of life makes each moment more precious, compelling us to focus on what is truly important. It is precisely because our lives have an end that we strive to make the most of our present. From a philosophical or physical standpoint, living in the present might seem like an illusion. Reflecting on my youth, I recall spending time on activities that felt wasteful. Although these moments seemed frivolous, they often provided lessons and experiences that I utilized later in life. However, life after retirement is vastly different from youth. As we become increasingly aware of the limited time we have left, we grow more conscious of not wanting to squander it on trivial matters. In this way, the passage of time significantly influences our values and pr

Managing Inner Struggles

Image
No matter what kind of personality people are born with, everyone has their own weaknesses. Even those who appear successful and seem to navigate life smoothly are, in reality, grappling with their own inner struggles to varying degrees. The way we perceive events—whether positively or negatively—is a reflection of each person's battle with their own vulnerabilities. By consciously choosing to view things in a positive light and making this a habit, people can better manage their weaknesses. This positive mindset makes it easier to handle life's challenges in a healthy and constructive manner. Conversely, those who perceive things negatively often become easily distracted. They fail to focus on positive and constructive aspects, leading to slower responses to challenges and a tendency to engage in unhealthy behaviors. This negative outlook can become habitual, creating a downward spiral that is difficult to escape. Therefore, learning how to manage one's inner struggles i

Reflections of Growth: Learning from Others to Improve Ourselves

Image
There is a Japanese proverb that says, "Observe others' behavior and improve your own." This means it is important to look at the positive traits of others and learn from what you may lack, while also noticing the negative traits you share and reflecting on them to improve yourself. In other words, other people are mirrors of ourselves. However, if we are arrogant to any degree, we tend to focus only on the flaws and mistakes of others, merely pointing them out or criticizing them. This mindset results in a significant loss of opportunity for personal growth.

The Power of Belief: An Irreplaceable Gift

Image
No matter who they are, having even one person who truly believes in your potential and supports you warmly is an irreplaceable gift. This unwavering belief can bolster your confidence, providing a continuous source of courage and motivation. Although, in our youthful impulsiveness, we might sometimes treat such individuals poorly, their belief in us remains a profound source of gratitude. Eventually, we come to deeply appreciate their support. When we look at it this way, we realize that the belief we hold in our hearts transforms into positive energy, often without our conscious awareness. Moreover, I aspire to be someone who always believes in others' potential and possibilities.

Turning Adversity into Opportunity

Image
Throughout my many years of working within an organization, I faced several demotions. As someone who consistently put in hard work, each demotion was a deeply disappointing and harsh blow, leaving me dissatisfied every time. I felt strongly that I was being punished for being a challenging presence within the organization. However, with each demotion, I sought new hopes and goals in the departments I was reassigned to and dedicated myself fully to my new roles. Over time, my feelings of shame gradually faded. Looking back on these experiences several years later, I can't help but recognize that those painful moments significantly contributed to my career development. Transforming a crisis into an opportunity in one's professional life requires maintaining one's spirit during tough times, finding potential opportunities even in adversity, and pursuing them with unwavering dedication.

Finding Joy in Life: Embracing Your Unique Path

Image
There is no single correct path in life. Each individual has their own unique journey, and there are countless paths one can take. This is especially true for life after retirement. Despite the pressure from insurance companies that try to instill fear with statements like, “If you don't do this, you won't be able to live a happy retirement,” there is no standardized path. At retirement, we have the freedom to choose a new direction and take responsibility for the path we select. Finding joy in the journey we're currently on is essential for a happy life. Ultimately, it is we who will evaluate our lives and decide if we have any regrets. The ultimate goal, therefore, is to achieve self-satisfaction in a positive sense. In Japan, a country that values harmony, tradition, and order, children are taught from a young age not to cause trouble for others. This has become a core value of Japanese culture. With this in mind, my concept of self-satisfaction naturally includes the

The Power of Thoughtful Questions: A Pathway to Personal Growth and Societal Improvement

Image
In the real world, we are not provided with neatly organized problems and answers as we are in school. Instead, the ability to ask insightful and meaningful questions becomes crucial. By raising thoughtful questions and discussing them with others, we can identify important issues that need to be addressed. However, if we only focus on surface phenomena or information distorted by propaganda, our understanding of the problems can become skewed. To truly grasp the essence of issues, it is important to identify and address fundamental questions through careful hypothesis testing. This process enhances our critical thinking skills, insight, and creativity. By cultivating these abilities, we can foster personal growth. In essence, asking healthy and insightful questions in the real world is a pathway to self-improvement and contributes to the development of a better society.
