Pioneers Break Barriers

 

One can either set limits for oneself and remain within a safe, comfortable zone, or believe in one’s potential and boldly challenge those limits. Pioneers who choose the latter path rarely gain the understanding or cooperation of those who choose the former; they may even become targets of criticism. Yet, if pioneers persist in pushing beyond their limits without giving up, circumstances gradually begin to align, making it possible to cross the seemingly impossible threshold. Once others recognize this objective reality, they may suddenly—as if flipping a switch—rally behind the pioneer and spare no effort to help break through the barrier. Pioneers must fully understand that public reaction can take such a dramatic turn. Human progress would be impossible without those who voluntarily choose the path of challenges.

Conversations with Myself

  When I write essays, a daily routine for me, I often feel as though I am conversing with another version of myself—one that offers me advice. On closer reflection, I realize this advice is shaped by what I have learned from books, mentors, and my own past experiences. In a sense, my present self simply lives day by day without much wisdom to rely on, while this other self reaches into memory, retrieves lessons, and presents them as guidance. It feels almost like the relationship between a computer’s memory and hard drive: one draws out and supplies what the other needs. Yet, there is something to be mindful of. If we consciously nurture this inner dialogue to bring out positive insights, it can protect and guide us. But if we allow it to unconsciously pull forth negative thoughts, it may instead work against us.

Limits of Selflessness

  Most people are easily motivated by immediate gains or losses. However, even when we tell ourselves that we are dedicating our time selflessly, without expecting anything in return, and striving to accumulate virtue, sustaining such motivation without a visible endpoint is far from easy. If we push ourselves too hard, we simply cannot continue. Therefore, we must act within reasonable limits, guided by wisdom and ingenuity.

Critical Mass

  In the early stages of a society undergoing an artificial and undesirable shift, only a small number of people have the keen insight to notice the earliest signs of change. Most remain unaware or uninterested, as such shifts seem psychologically distant from their daily lives. Their attention tends to focus on their immediate surroundings and the near future. In this situation, even if a few insightful individuals try to correct the course, it is extremely difficult to overcome entrenched interests and convince the indifferent majority to act. However, once about 30% of the population begins to feel real harm and recognizes the negative direction of change, the situation can surpass a critical threshold. A chain reaction then begins, influencing decisions and behavior throughout society.
